Camp Super-hero!

"Okay, you be spider-baby and I'll be spider-man! You are in spider pre-school and I'll teach you how to throw webs."
"Now here's the position that Spider-man likes to be in, see?"

"SSSSSSSSPPPPT"
Amazing what school will do! These two have been annoying each other or ignoring each other for the last 2-3 weeks of summer. School starts, and all of a sudden they are the best of buds......I think they miss each other ( just a little) don'tcha think?

Warm Fuzzies

Have you ever had a warm fuzzy? You know, that feeling when your heart melts and a smile blooms across your face without any effort? Whenever I pick up this book I'm reading I get the warm fuzzies......"The Rest Of God; Restoring Your Soul By Restoring Sabbath" by Mark Buchanan. If not warm fuzzies, I get frequent "aha" moments. True evidence that there is much truth and the Holy spirit speaking through the book. The author articulates in a clever manner...and at times he explains a point with a winded story; it's been entertaining. So thank you Jennifer (from work) for letting me borrow this book to read.

Here are some warm fuzzies and aha's that I'll share with you:

  • In a culture where busyness is a fetish and stillness is laziness, rest is sloth. But without rest, we miss the rest of God; "Be still, and know that I am God." (Ps. 46:10)

  • A typical response to threat and burden is to want to flee it, but flight becomes captivity. God's solution is that he offers rest. To rest in him in the midst of our threats and our burdens. God is our rock and our refuge right in the thick of our situation.

  • Make it your ambition...to work with your hands, just as we told you"; "We gave you this rule: ;If a man will not work, he shall not eat'" (Thess. 4:11; 2 Thess. 3:10)

  • The opposite of a slave is not a free man. It's a worshiper. The one who is most free is the one who turns the work of his hands into sacrament, into offering.

  • Next tine you're tempted to complain about your work, praise God for it instead. Next time you open your mouth to gossip about people; pray for them, thank God for them, find the good in them.

  • nothing really changes until our minds do

  • This is the gift of God: to experience the sacred amidst the commonplace-to taste heaven in our daily bread, a new heaven and new earth in a mouthful of wine, joy in the ache of our muscles or the sweat of our brows.

  • The Chinese join two characters to form a single pictograph for busyness: heart and killing. The heart is the place the busy life exacts its steepest toll.

  • He makes me lie down in green pastures. Psalm 23. If we don't choose to lie down, God sometimes makes us. Such as we continue to ignore the rest and continue the busyness, and then God makes us lie down; whether we like it or not, we come down with some type of ailment.

  • The essence of a Sabbath heart: paying attention. It is being fully present, wholly awaken in each moment.

  • Those who train themselves in God's goodness should discover that every year you grow, you find him bigger.

  • Life does not consist of the abundance of our possessions, it is to notice, to pay attention to the time of God.

  • In God's economy, to redeem time, you might just have to waste some.

  • Put your hand to the task, Martha-like, and do it with all your heart, Mary-like.

So anyways, just wanted to share what I've been reading lately and the thought-provoking material it is providing.........

What it takes to be a 1st grader.........

I remember first grade!

  • My teacher was Mrs. Waack
  • We had about 21 kids in my class
  • We learned about the alphabet in depth
  • I remember doing the donut dance with the letter D
  • I remember growing grass for Harry Hair letter H
  • We made pizza as a demonstration project
  • I remember splitting up in groups and reading and doing activities in our books
  • I don't know WHY I still remember learning about the word Helicopter but I do, strangely enough!
  • We did the butterfly project where we watch the caterpillars make a chrysalis, then morph into a butterfly
  • I loved getting my ears checked with area 7! You get to where huge ear phones and raise your hand to the tone in your ear!
  • I also loved getting my hair checked for lice.....I never had it, but it was a great feeling when the nurse was using her plastic gloves and a tongue depressor; tickling my scalp!
  • My most memorable moment was the Valentine's party when Jason M. was sitting on a desk above Nicole and he threw up on her head. I was sitting next to Nicole and got a bit of vomit on my knee.....well, I'm sure you know what happened next.....the domino effect. Nicole got sick, I was gagging with other kids......what a mess!

Strange how I remember those moments....makes me wonder what C-man will learn and take with him from his 1st grade. I can't believe my little guy is BIG enough to start first grade.....I could still consider him my babe when he was in Kindergarten. This is ALL together different and I'm excited for him and will be praying for him for a successful, healthy, and memorable school year.

Summer Delights

Just harvested some tomatoes, eggplants, and a huge zucchini from the garden.
Hello Eggplant parmiagiano! Maybe a zucchini bread or maybe it might be too woody to eat. Lots of BLT's for future lunches!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
MONDAY: Mommy made gak and we played with the icky, ooey, gooey stuff.
Pink for O.

Blue for C-man.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

TUESDAY: leave for G&G Mehmen's Farm. Hung out with cousins; Jake & Emma. Uncle Brent finally got Miss-O to let him hold her (that made his day!) Roasted JUMBO marshmallows at the camp-fire.

WEDNESDAY: went into town....(something I still say when I go shopping, even though I live in town! It's a farm thing!) went school shopping for our First Grader! My car over-heated and Dad topped it off with coolant. Then my little guy started to over-heat and had a fever through-out the night with a bad looking throat:(

THURSDAY: Harvested some sweet corn, helped Mom with the process of cooling it, cutting it, and freezing it....we did 72 bags.
Took my little guy to the nearest clinic to see if he had Strep throat......nope but it was either a virus or Hand/Foot/Mouth.....and I'm thinking it's that latter without symptoms of rash on the hands and feet........that means 7-10 days of being very contagious.
Meanwhile Daddy made it to the farm with Indy. He took him out to the CRP and did some hunting training.....sounds like he may make a good hunting dog!

FRIDAY: Getting in some last playing time before leaving to go back home. We cut the visit short because we didn't want to get the cousins sick.
"Hello, Marin? Ummm...yep......nope.....love you bye!"

Taking it easy is what C-man did....you know he wasn't feeling well when he was just lying around on the couch....he normally is on the go.
We did get to visit with Uncle Bryan in the morning and have a nice lunch before we left to go home. By the way, my car made it and now Paul is going to service it (when it stops raining!)

On the Farm with G&G Mehmen; we got dirty and had fun...."that's what you're supposed to do on the farm." quote from C-man.
Thanks Mom & Dad for a nice visit. We enjoyed our time with you.
Love, The Roberts.
