I REALLY ENJOYED HANGING OUT AND TALKING WITH MY SISTER-IN-LAW, BROOKE AND MY BROTHER, BRENT....(WHILE MY HUSBAND LAID IN WRETCHING OR SHOULD I SAY RETCHING? PAIN AND DEHYDRATION!)





SO WE'RE BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGS....PAUL'S BEEN BUSY INTRODUCING A NEW PROTOCOL FOR THE ACUTE CARE AT THE HOSPITAL.....NOT TO GET TOO WAY OVER YOUR HEADS BUT TO INDUCE HYPOTHERMIA IN PATIENTS THAT ARE OR HAVE EXPERIENCE CARDIAC ARREST.....HYPOTHERMIA ACTUALLY HELPS THEIR NEURO-FUNCTION AFTERWARDS....ANYWAYS LOTS OF MEETINGS WITH COMMITTEES, CARDIOLOGISTS, ACUTE CARE REPRESENTATIVES...........I'M SO PROUD OF HIM....HE'S SO SUPER SMART....AND IT ALL REALLY STARTED FROM THIS ARTICLE WE BOTH READ IN AN ACUTE CARE JOURNAL AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE COOL TO IMPLEMENT IT IN THE HOSPITAL....SO HE'S BEEN DOING SOME RESEARCH AND LOBBYING FOR IT AT THIS TIME.

I'VE HAD GOOD FEEDBACK SO FAR, I'M "REAL", APPROACHABLE, PATIENT, AND HONEST. THOSE ARE BETTER EVALS THAN LAST FALL SEMESTER, I WAS MEAN AND INTIMIDATING....OH, WHAT A DIFFERENCE IN PERSONALITIES WILL MAKE!

Blessed with Imagination

Yesterday, C-man came home from school and declared he was going to make a church. He found a tupperware cup and stated that this was for the holy water. So I thought he was thinking large scale church and that we'd be rearranging the livingroom into a sacred gathering area.

No, he wanted the blocks. I wish I took a picture of his fine design of the church. It looked just like ours but in a smaller scale. Had the entry way with the holy water on both sides. There were pews and people sitting in the pews. He had the stairway in the front with a podium and the Priest was doing his homily and behind all that he made the cross with Jesus on it. I was very impressed with his details. He even had someone sleeping in the back pew and a child playing with a toy.

All the while he was designing his church, Miss O looked on and was dipping her hand in her cup of water and blessing herself, "IN DA NAME OF THE FADDER, THE SON, AND THE HOOOOLLLLY SPIWIT. AMEN!" This was a moment I needed the video camera to catch it all......made me so very proud!

Thought of the week.

I get this thought every time I pass a gas station. First I look at the dropping prices and then I think.......man, I used to compare my weight to this summer's gas prices, fluctuating.....but NOW, NOW, they are dropping but my weight on the otherhand, not so much........My thought is this, wouldn't it be nice if our weight dropped as fast as the gas prices nowadays.....?(for those of us who need a little weight management in our life!)

Saturday night, the family got dressed up to go to our friends' annual costume party....it gets bigger and bigger each year. C-man was not quite ready for the haunted house.......when will I get the excuse to go in the haunted house???????? I want to see it so bad!

"graters"

Tonight I was walking from the media-center to the cafeteria. I was walking behind a family trio; Mom, Dad, and son. They seemed to be getting a tour from their Kindergartener.

He pointed down the opposite hall at the intersection of the cafeteria and said....."that's the graters, do you want to see the graters?"

In my mind I was imagining graters......some type of machinery....maybe something that smashes the paper for recycyling......no, it was the "graders!" The other part of the Elementary school........

never heard them called that before.......so I'm going to try to use it in my vocabulary now....like next year, C-man will officially be a grader and I'll be a grader mom!.........TOO FUNNY!

Friday Fun Day & Friday Fall Night

Mommy & Me Preschool pictures are finally here! Miss O was dancing with her scarf. She really was thrilled about it even though her facial expressions do not show this......(takes after her father, her mother is way too animated not to show expression!)
Eating snack at the table....she wasn't too thrilled about the gingerbread cookie, but after watching all the other kids eat, she decided it was okay too. She had a little issue with Tyler the boy next to her, he was invading her space and boy did she give him a look......his mom saw her look and joked about how she needs space and I said that she needs at least 3 feet around her for a security bubble.

THEN..........

We had Fall Fun Night at the Elementary school, just for the Kindergarteners. It really turned out nice after seeing and doing all the "behind the scenes" planning for the social activity. We found some Jr. High volunteers with the games. One near by college student who wants to be a teacher volunteered her time as well. Thank goodness for Mother-in-laws because Michelle (bless my mother-in-law's heart) manned the admissions table at the end of the night. There were some "grader's mothers" that came and help us too. (I'll come back to that story!)

C-man was so excited to see his friend Isaiah there. I finally got to meet his Mom. We enjoyed chatting about our little guys' friendship. Mr. Cowboy and Anakin.

It's the ever-famous cake walk! After a few tries, he finally won a hostess cake. One thing to learn from the snack cakes.........keep them in the boxes for prizes.....the teachers have way too many cakes to eat for snacks now! (like a whole table full!) We actually helped ourselves to a few to put in the freezer for desserts and we also helped ourselves to extra 2 liter pops....we decided we needed some type of pat on our back!

Love, love, love Miss-O's face.......is it boredom? is it annoyance? or is it just plain ol' tiredness?

I asked her if she had fun and she did. Cman had a blast! He was excited to see his friends in costumes, play games, win prizes, eat popcorn, and bring home some goody bags.

Thanks to my lovely husband who watched the kids while I helped set up the rest of the activities and took random pictures of the children. AND many thanks to him again for helping us put away things and fold up the bounce house!

Thursday

This morning we headed off on the bus to a state park. Explored in a nature hike. Ate lunch. Had a scavenger hunt. Played on the playground. Finished up the day by viewing the new natural play area.

The kids had a blast. We really enjoyed our park-ranger; he was a hit! The kids really took to him and learned all the while!

TUESDAY

"YOU'RE MY BUDDIES!"




C-man is just involved in Rookies and this past Tuesday was his last day.....it was a mixture of Soccer, Basketball, and T-ball.....he was a bit saddened there was no dodge-ball.....but he got over it quickly as he went through the activities.......He made a buddy, Holden, and they will miss each other...luckily we know Holden's Mommy through the hospital...so we could hook the boys up to play some soccer!

Okay, for the last few days, Paul keeps saying that the heat needs to come on...well, this morning the dog was all wrapped up in covers....OKAY! Point taken! Our house is now heated to 69 degrees, instead of 62......the heater finally came on.......now we should be a toasty family...even T-dog!

Sweet Moment!

Last night, C-man and I were reading books, when we heard an innocent little yelp, "My PACI!"
"I'll get it mom," the fearless older brother said, as he set way into the bedroom. I heard some mumbling and then the door shut.
Could it be? I thought, could C-man actually be settling in his own bed? Nah, better check out the duo.
I walked into the room and found the lamp on and C-man in bed with Miss-O reading her a book. "Mom, I'm helping her get to sleep. She wanted to read more books, so I'm going to read to her."
"Mind if I lie here and listen" I asked pointing to the vacant bed across from Miss-O's.
"sure mom!" answered C-man.
Then I heard conversations as follows:

"This is the letter A, can you say A? Yes, that is another a, but it looks different."

C-man also pointed to different things on the page and asked Miss-O what they were and she would answer. At one point she answered, "FUR!" and C-man replies, "WOW, I'm impressed! Do you know what impressed means? It means that I am surprised and that surpressed me that you knew what that was." I hid my snickers in the pillow.

They finished the book and started on with the belly-button book.....but that didn't get finished and C-man's patience was starting to run thin...for his plan was for his little sister to fall asleep and she hadn't done it yet.

I motioned him over to me and told him that it is best that we just shut off the lights and let her fall asleep.

He climbed up on his bed and switched the light off. On his way to O's bed, he told her the plan, "now it's time to sleep. I will lay here with you until you fall asleep, okay?" "okay." a sweet little voice answered.

He showed her how to count the stars and then counted the stars in Spanish. Then I heard a little smack and a whisper, "I love you sweetheart." and the 2 year old voice answers, "I love you to the moon and back."
a silent pause then some giggles..........followed by a silent pause and "Conno, your eyes are open." this was followed by a big sigh.
"Mom, she's not sleeping." I look up from my groggy haze and see that he has an armful of ni-ni's, puppies and was on his way to our bedroom. "we're going to sleep in your bed."

Ah, what the heck, I thought, it's getting late and they need to get to sleep...so the three of us snuggled in my bed, and I prayed that this wouldn't be a new trend. Anyway, I just witnessed the sweetest moment of my two babes! How these two have been at each other's throats for one toy, or how C-man would complain that O is annoying her and now this sweet, sweet moment made up for all of the adversity a 5 and 2 year old siblings have for another....sweet indeed!

"Look at the puppies, what do they say?" "h-h-h-h-h-" Miss O pants in reply.


This moment I will treasure forever in my heart.

Count your Blessings!

Aaaaahh! I'm just settling down, smelling my turkey chili in the crock pot, listening to the rain outside and thinking about taking a nap or watching a movie (which would end up being nappy-nap time anyways.)



I got to thinking and thought I'd share some thoughts.....I see a sign on my way to work....(remember how I love to read church signs?) this one says ..."It is not in Dow we trust, but in God we trust." Great point!



Yes, we need to have a stable economy and we need the means to get by. If we trust in God, he will get us through it all. Ever notice how the food stretches a little farther in a week, when cash flow is down? That's God getting us through it.



I also think this is a great wake up call for those to discover there's more to means in this life. Laughs and smiles are free. Hugs and cuddles are free. Yes, we need food, water and shelter to survive...but if we trust in the Lord with all our might he will provide.



Another wake up call is for all of those people who work in the market, banking, stocks, etc.....let's make these guys some honest people. I like to believe there is good in everyone...but money (too much money) causes greed and chaos.......so, I'm in no right to be talking about economy and how bankers run the show and these other people I've mentioned before...I'm just saying.....let's just be honest people, let's spend within our means and be happy with what we have...........there is a saying that says be happy with what you have, where you are............



We've developed into a society that wants it all, has it all, get it all........which is great if you can afford it...that stimulates the economy........but let's just sit back and count our blessings.....be thankful for the roof over our head, the food that is provided, our jobs (in which health care there will always be a demand)that pay for the roof and food, our children, our family, our friends, and the memories that money will never buy..................

That's enough of my money talk...I'm kind of a tight wad that has difficulty balancing a check book, so I'm not sure how much credit will come from my thoughts.....but there you have it.....my thoughts on this rainy, cool fall day........

Nice DO'!

C-man giggled Friday morning coming out of the bathroom....he had made himself a mohawk! He asked me if he could go to school with it and I (knowing his hair was too thick to withold measures) agreed. After ten minutes the mohawk weighed down and C-man then wanted a spiky do....so, I took some pomade and shaped his hair and he laughed and giggled and couldn't wait for Dad to come home to show him his do he was going to school with.....well, here's the pick....the wind and the heaviness of his hair didn't make the do last but it was cute watching him explore his hair do options!
This hair-do will not be an option for school.....this is my wig for Halloween and C-man wanted to wear it...doesn't he look cute! Kinda looks like a pippy-longstocking......even though it's supposed to be princess leia.

Rookies (week 3)

It's Soccer Time!

I asked C-man, of the last three sports which one does he enjoy the very most and he said all of them.........I kinda wished he would narrow down a bit....but he's got plenty of time to decide what he likes and the sports he's been participating in are in different seasons.....

All is Good for Miss O!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers today.

Miss-O was a champ today....pre-op: she kept busy with toys and playing only once did she voice that she wanted to go home. The operation took 1 hr. 10 min., rather longer than we expected...there was more that the surgeon needed to do than he thought. Post-op; we waited in the room and once I heard her crying and coming down the hall I wanted to run out and grab her....instantly she was in my arms and she recovered well. A little sleepy, thirsty, and very cuddly. She recovered for almost two hours before she was discharged home.

She ate some soup and did well at home and even played well....but we knew when the medication wore off because she told us....ow, ow, ow!

She hasn't had any effects of the medicine and I've been doing my hourly nursing checks on her..and she's doing very well.

This was pure exhaustion on parents.....Paul might not have shown it, but we were tired and hungry when we came home. I felt as if I held my breath the whole time since I awoke and when she was in my arms, I had great relief and was a bit chatty.....a little adrenaline rush!

Since post-op, my motherly instincts have kicked in and have had every worry that one could have; (or at least a nurse-mom would have) like what if she doesn't go potty and we need to take her in for a straight cath? What if she bleeds? What if she has a reaction to the pain med? What if she gets dehydrated? what if she gets an infection? How much pain is she going to have? Okay, so my worries could go on and on and I won't bore you.....

She was such a champ and didn't cry and I really believe her guardian angels were hovering around her today. The staff was great, Surgeon was great....not a bad experience in the hospital today....and we know the inside of a hospital and all was done appropriately.

We especially love the "child-life specialist!" She was great, introduced O's gas mask to her (which are scented!) and O had a chance to play with it....the specialist was wonderful and the separation was better than I ever expected. She got a ride on the wagon while the specialist blew bubbles at her and we went the opposite way.....the specialist came back and told us she never cried........

I didn't feel like a picture of my recovering baby was appropriate but here is her pacifier that was with her all the way......it sustained her hunger and thirst, kept her secure during transitions, and provided comfort during any painful situation...........Miss-O's little lifeline!

This year we invited Aunt Angie, Uncle Chris, Grandma and Grandpa to the farm with us. It was a great family day....we went to church together. Paul took the kids' pictures in the park. Had Brunch and then off to the Farm...the kids were pretty filthy when we got home so we gauged that they had a good time!

Our Week

Wow! I can't believe it is October already....love this time of the year.....the rest of the week goes as follows.....Tues. C-man went to Rookies again and learned T-ball....He liked throwing the ball,running the bases, and batting the ball. Daddy had to take him to this because I was blowing off the dust from the games stuck in a closet at the Elementary. We're going to use them at the school for Fall Fun Night; it's a bit like a carnival....we're having a jumping thingy, safety city bikes, dig n find, ring the pumpkin, plinko, silent auction, cookie decorating, cardboard/wood gluing project, cake walk and ring the bottle of pop......we're having a hard time finding candy donations....got a few donations of tooth brushes, novelty toys....finally I just found some candy and donated it myself....as well as another Mother.....I think the economy is making it hard for donations....if anyone has any ideas...let me know...but we only have a couple weeks left.

While we were all out of the house, Papa Roberts hung out with Miss O and occupied her until we got home....Thanks PAPA!

Tuesday night was the start of my two night insomnia...don't ask me why??? Maybe it's the change of the season, maybe it's the steroid injection I had in June, maybe it's the market/economy, maybe it was all the caffeine I had that gave me my teacher's high and I couldn't come down from it....but anyways Wednesday was a usual day of school for C-man, miss-O hanging out with Grandma Roberts, Daddy sleeping and me teaching.

Thursday, I woke up at 8:15 and freaked because I hadn't gotten Cman ready for school yet. I fed him, he dressed, and somehow with a little team work he was ready to go one time! Yesterday I played catch-up with my sleep....bless my husband who allowed me to sleep in yesterday after Cman went to school! We caught Miss-O reading books to her animals yesterday morning. So here's a picture of her talking to her carebear and reading to it......we just heard her talking to herself in her room and came across this.............................

This is how I read to O....I kneel down and read books to her while she sits or lies in her bed......

So that would bring us up to today....Miss O had to miss her Preschool for a pre-surgical physical at the Doctor's office. We saw Dr. Amy, and O's anxiety was reduced to where she was very comfortable and talking to the Dr. I asked if she had openings and maybe we'd switch O over to her in the next year....Miss O never liked men anyways and she really took to Dr. Amy!

Miss O's surgery is Thursday, October 9th....we won't know the time until Wed. evening sometime. All we ask for is lots of prayers as she goes through this....and hopefully she won't remember and it will be a short-lived recovery..........
