A Writer's Workshop Unforgettable

I Love My Mom

By: C. Roberts

5-7-10

I love my mom because she takes me to toysRus. And buys me legos.

I love my mom because she takes care of me when I'm sick.

I love my mom because she takes me to movies.

I love my mom because she buys stuff I need.

I love my mom because she helps me with my homework.

I think she looks like she's sixteen.

I love my mom because she cooks for me and makes good meals.

Thank you my little man, you just made my night. I just came across this paper crumpled on the breakfast bar. Low and behold it was a treasure!
The picture is C. on the couch vomiting and holding our pink "puke bucket," and that pretty 16 yr. old looking character is me taking care of him! Gotta love the world through the eyes of a 6 1/2 year old!

Happy Birthday Indy!

Happy 1st Birthday!
Indy is 1 year old today and my brother probably can remember the most of his birth, since he witnessed it! Indy has been an interesting addition to our family. He definitely spices it up with his goofiness, his LOUD snoring, chewing, shedding, cuddling, playfulness, following us around like a puppy dog, and his love of outdoors. He's been a great companion to Tatum and to the rest of us as well. Love you Indy bo bindy!

3 Day Excursion!

What a wet morning, we didn't think there'd be a game Thursday night...but there was. It was chilly out, but nice to see the sunshine......C-man playing Centerfield.
C-man's favorite fans!
Miss-O and Jackie!
We were so excited to have Aunt Jolyn and Jackie come and visit for a few days.
Friday we took up the opportunity to go to the zoo. We loved the sunshine as much as the animals did!
Saturday, we had more visitors! G&G Mehmen came down to visit us all. Grandma brought lunch (the famous macaroni pea salad & rhubarb crisp, enough said!) They stayed to enjoy C-man's baseball game.
Aunt Jolyn and Jackie cheering on C-man and the Cubs!
We're so glad they came to visit!
C-man's fans are multiplying.....Marin, Jackie, & Miss-O enjoying popcorn and lady-bugs!
He's SAFE at home!

Our New Pets!

For a little while anyway! Our neighbor gave us a few tadpoles to watch grow. If you look closely, the one on the far left already has leg buds! These tadpoles are ginormous, I was thinking tiny tadpoles.....a couple of them are bullfrog tadpoles! So we're going to study the life cycle of the frog.......learn all about metamorphasis, then do a safe release program in our neighbor's farm pond.

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day!
In which Mothers are celebrated for their tireless 24/7 efforts for 365 days a year...and several years at that. For the sleepless nights, cuddles, snuggles, diaper changes, boo-boo kisses, cooing, rocking, singing, dancing, and acting goofy.

For the guidance, prayers, support, unconditional love, and discipline. For the milestones we share with our children, feeling proud yet a tugging on our hearts because our little ones are growing up.

For celebrating our Moms and really understanding what motherhood is when you feel a little one bump-thumping in your tummy, and then having great empathy for your Mom when you experience something that comes full circle and hits you......that's when you call your Mom right away and say I'm sorry for being .......( ), and doing......( ). And your mother just chuckles for she knew this moment would happen and she has done it in her previous time.

For celebrating the Mothers that surround us; counting our Mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, Mother-in-law, Grandmother-in-law, sisters-in-law, and our friends. For there is something special when you've entered the society of motherhood. These mothers surround us provide us support, validation, and help us be the best mother we can be.

Happy Mother's Day to all and here's wishing you take a moment in time to look where you've been and where you're headed in your "Motherhood." May God shine his blessings on every one of you.

[Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to take a much deserved soak in the tub. Warm up my sinuses and doctor this yucky sinus gunk that I got on Mother's Day! Thank you honey for letting me sleep in yesterday and today to help fight off this yucky sinus gunk!]

Happy Teachers Week!

I found a really cool idea from Tip Junkie Website. You'll see the icon on the left side of the blog. thestampteacher.blogspot.com
was the initial creator of this idea and I used it for my inspiration for the kids' teacher appreciation gifts. I used "Smart Water" (get it?) and since coincidentally all three teachers are health nuts, I placed a Kashi Granola bar and two crystal light packages. A little something practical and yet a creative twist in telling them "thank you".

Taking a Header!

Thursday was C-man's ball-game.
What I failed to mention was that he
took a header on the way to the concession stand after the game.
A big boy was swinging his bat without being aware of his surroundings and clunked C-man on the noggin. We put ice on it, did neuro checks and we medicated him, observed him and he seemed to take it well.
Friday, C-man went to school and acted just like he usually does.
After dinner, (the 24 hour period was almost up) and C-man had a disoriented spell.
He thought it was morning and he had to go to school. He thought it was Saturday. He didn't remember going to school on Friday. He didn't remember having a ball-game the night before. During this whole spell, he was so scared and confused.
So with his confusion, we took him to the ER.

Murphy's Law; when you take them to the Dr. or ER, they act totally normal.
Which he did, which was good.
He enjoyed being a patient (too much).
He passed the physical exam and passed the Head CT scan.
Diagnosis: Concussion.
Treatment: 7 days of resting and no activity....ya, tell that to a 6 year old!
With much reminding, he's been good at it, and he almost enjoys the fact he doesn't have to participate in gym or recess this week!
The sweetest thing is that he wanted to go to watch and cheer on his team-mates on Saturday's game. What a good guy!
We'll See Dr. L on Thursday for clearance.

p.s. he played up this picture a bit, he thought a face like this would be more convincing!
